BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Anne L. Viricel joined the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra (SBSO) in 2013, bringing over 25 years of strategic business expertise in both the public and private sectors. With a strong desire to advance the economic success of the Inland Empire, she enthusiastically took on the task of improving the Orchestra’s visibility through positive public perception initiatives regarding the role of the arts and arts education in the Inland Empire. The results of those considerable efforts include statistically significant increases in local audience diversity and engagement at all levels, a growing volunteer base, state-wide notoriety including best-in-industry awards, and a more-than--doubled annual budget.
Not long after joining the organization, Dr. Viricel established our Classroom to Concert Hall initiative which provides a pathway to fine arts access to hundreds of local students and their families each season. She expanded the annual student concert program region-wide and has coordinated with City and County school leadership for a variety of student and family arts access activities, including the SBSO’s new San Bernardino Youth Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to her service to the SBSO, Dr. Viricel has simultaneously worked as a professor at the University of Redlands School of Business and Society for over 25 years. She is also a board member for the San Bernardino Valley Concert Association, the San Bernardino County Arts Connection, and The Unforgettables Foundation. She was a publicly-elected trustee to the San Bernardino Community College Board for nine years and now serves as an Emeritus Trustee. Dr. Viricel is also an author, having published dozens of academic and industry articles and collaborating on the autobiography of educator and civil rights activist Dr. Margaret Hill.
